                                                   About the Foundation:
The Fox Valley Park Foundation assists local youth and families so that all children have access to experience enrichment programs, sports, camps and aquatics. Our mission is to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives by providing opportunities to participate in Fox Valley Park District programs regardless of financial capability. We open the door to a world of activities that enhance each child’s growth and development.

Thanks to your help raising funds through last year’s Golf For Kids event, the Fox Valley Park Foundation has awarded 10 grants totaling $52,000 for 2019 programs for recreationally underserved residents.

DISTRICT 131 INITIATIVE / $2,500 – Opportunities for District 131 students to learn to swim at the Vaughan Athletic Center.

WORKING FOR WILDLIFE / $2,000 – Would give 13 in-district students an opportunity to experience how wild animals are cared for across a variety of Chicagoland centers, including Cosely Zoo, Brookfield Zoo, Phillips Park Zoo and a program with the Fox Valley Wildlife Center.

SUMMER STAGE COSTUME GRANT / $2,300 – Supports more than fifty youth performers in their pursuit of Summer Stage participation. By waiving the $35 costume fee, our goal is to encourage wider participation in striving for social equity.

HEROES IN HEALTH / $3,700 – In a joint venture with Fox Valley Special Recreation Association, this grant would allow 12 in-district Veterans to enjoy free fitness access for one year. The pass also allows them to bring a workout buddy to aid in their transition back to wellness.

2ND GRADE LEARN TO SWIM / $4,500 – Teach children to swim by 2nd grade, and they own a life-saving skill. Fail, and odds are they’ll never learn. This grant will fund Learn to Swim access for 42 participants across District 129 schools.

NATURE ADVENTURE TRIPS / $4,500 – Red Oak Nature Center intends to leave no child inside. Connecting to Nature is essential for children’s well-being. To help better serve our youth, we’ll offer seasonal opportunities with transportation from our Community Centers. This would aid 105 children.

POP-UP PARK PROGRAMS / $5,000 – In collaboration with the Aurora Housing Authority, this grant will provide fun and safe activities, free of charge, in select locations throughout our community. Where Fun Begins will take on a whole new meaning, as we deliver the fun where our underserved children need it most.

JESSE “THE LAW” TORRES BOXING CLUB /$5,000 – For a $10 yearly membership, we help the youth of our community fight back against obesity and a lack of positive after-school options. We serve ages 8 and up with membership totals in excess of 600 each of the last three years. This grant would help subsidize the losses we operate the club and allow us to keep access at the lowest possible cost.

SPORTS SATURDAY / $10,000 – Held at six local elementary schools (three from each district), Sports Saturday is a free, eight-week program which has served the community for more than 20 years. Staying active in the winter is essential, and Sports Saturday bridges the seasonal gap with free sports, fitness, and arts/crafts activities. This grant would extend the program by three weeks through Spring Break.

SUMMER PLAYGROUNDS CAMP GRANT / $12,500 – Summer Playgrounds is a free camp program offered at four of our park district locations.  This camp runs Monday through Friday for six weeks throughout the summer from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is designed for children 6 to 11 years of age. Daily activities include arts and crafts, group games, sports, use of parks and Friday field trips.
